Everything You Must Know About Bankers and Players in Baccarat

Baccarat is a popular casino game, with the dealer doing most of the work on the table. The dealer is referred to as the banker during the game. It’s largely categorized as a game of pure chance, with three possible outcomes for each play; the banker wins, the player wins, or it’s a tie. It’s a simple guessing game that requires players to bet on either of the two hands dealt. The winning hand takes the lead with the highest points from a possible 9 points.

Understanding What You Need to Play Baccarat

Depending on the baccarat version being played, you’re going to need a table with 7 to 14 chairs for players and a dedicated dealer’s area. Regardless of the number of players seated on the table, only the players’ and the banker’s hands of cards are dealt with in each round. Each player has their betting area but isn’t handed their cards. For this reason, a baccarat table is divided into three betting areas with boxes labeled as Tie, Banker, and Player. The dealer, standing at the center of the table, begins the game by dealing the cards.

The Points System for Baccarat

Baccarat follows a unique point calculation system. The rule of thumb states that in baccarat, nine is the highest score, and the hand’s value may not be higher than this. Aces are worth one point, while pictured cards and tens are worth zero points. The other numbered cards (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9) in between are worth their face value.

If the points value sums up to a double-digit, the second of the two digits becomes the value of the hand. For example, with a hand of 6 and 9 aggregating up to 15, 5 becomes the ‘point hand’. The bet on the hand closest to 9 wins the round.  Since baccarat is a game of chance, you must understand that no one player can win every session they play.
